Cell XXVI

Bourgeois was already in her nineties when she made this Cell. It is one of a series of such cells, on which she worked for years. This cell is open and gives us a glimpse of what has happened. That is in the past but will never go away. It is pain recalled. Evoked by a mishandled jute sack, two fragile underskirts and a mirror. Her pain has become poetry.
